Pimpri Chinchwad, 1st August 2026: Shiv Sena MP Shrirang Barne has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to order a high-level Central government inquiry into the July 8 Moshi waste-to-energy (WTE) plant collapse that claimed nine lives, alleging that the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) may have misled the Prime MinisterтАЩs Office by submitting incorrect documents while executing the project.
In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister, Barne claimed that the 14-MW waste-to-energy project at the Moshi garbage depot, developed by Antony Lara Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on August 1, 2023. He alleged that the first and second floors of the projectтАЩs administrative building were constructed illegally and questioned whether incorrect documents had been furnished to the PMO during the projectтАЩs execution.
тАЬIf the allegations are found to be true, it is a matter of serious concern and requires an impartial investigation,тАЭ Barne said.
During heavy rainfall on July 8, a mound of garbage stored at the depot collapsed onto the administrative building, killing nine employees. He said the incident raised serious questions about compliance with safety standards, maintenance practices and the accountability of officials associated with the project.
Barne has sought a time-bound, independent inquiry by a high-level Central committee into the collapse and demanded strict legal action against officials, agencies and the private company found responsible for the accident or any irregularities in the project. He also called for action against anyone found to have provided false or misleading information to the Prime MinisterтАЩs Office.
Additionally, Barne urged the Centre to conduct a comprehensive safety audit of all waste-to-energy projects operating across the country under the public-private partnership model, including inspections of structural quality, safety standards and operational practices, to prevent similar incidents in the future.
