Pune, 21st July 2026: Acting on complaints from residents over worsening air pollution in Moshi, Pimpri Chinchwad mayor Ravi Landge on Monday directed the civic administration to take stringent action against those allegedly burning plastic, tyres and scrap material in the area.
Residents of Vishnu Greens Cooperative Housing Society met the mayor and submitted a memorandum, alleging that the repeated burning of plastic, tyres and other scrap was causing severe air pollution, foul odour and posing health risks to the local population.
Taking immediate cognisance of the issue, Landge met Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi and urged the civic administration to initiate strict action against those responsible.
Highlighting the impact of rising smoke and pollution on children, senior citizens and other residents, the mayor called for immediate intervention by the concerned civic departments.

Illegal activities that contribute to pollution will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Every citizen has the right to clean air, a healthy environment and a safe quality of life, and the administration will take strict and effective action to safeguard these rights,тАЭ Landge said.
Former standing committee chairman Abhishek Barne and Kavita Alhat were also present during the meeting.
Municipal commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi directed officials of the concerned departments to conduct a joint inspection and submit an immediate report on the issue. He also instructed officials to remove unauthorised scrap yards, initiate strict legal action against those burning plastic and tyres, and implement permanent preventive measures to ensure such incidents do not recur.
Following the mayorтАЩs intervention, the civic administration has initiated action to address the air pollution issue in Moshi, with the municipal corporation stating that necessary measures will be implemented on a war footing to provide relief to residents.
