Pune, 8th July 2026: Hundreds of residents from Ravet, Kiwale and Mamurdi staged a protest outside the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) office in Ravet on Tuesday, braving rain, over prolonged power outages lasting up to two to three days and disrupted water supply. As frustration over repeated civic failures boiled over, a large number of residents gathered at Shriram Chowk, raising slogans against MSEDCL and the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
Residents alleged that the torrential rain over the past two days had exposed the failure of power and civic infrastructure in the rapidly growing suburbs. They said several housing societies remained without electricity for two to three days, while water supply was also severely disrupted. Low-lying areas continued to remain waterlogged, and repeated complaints to the authorities allegedly went unanswered.
The protesters accused developers of selling homes by promising modern infrastructure, while basic amenities such as reliable electricity, water supply, roads, stormwater drainage and traffic management remain inadequate. They alleged that despite a sharp rise in population over the past few years, authorities had failed to establish an independent power substation, strengthen the drainage network or augment water supply, leaving residents to face recurring hardships every monsoon.

The protest was attended by local corporator including Aishwarya Taras, Dharmapal Tantarpale, Reshma Katale, Nilesh Taras, Rajendra Taras, Bapu Katale, Society Federation president Prajakta Rudrawar, Amol Kalekar, Hitesh Rahangdale and Chaitanya Deshpande, among others.
Residents also expressed anger at the absence of their MLA and MP during the crisis, saying elected representatives who made promises during elections were missing when citizens needed them the most.
Some protesters further alleged that personnel from the Ravet police attempted to intimidate residents gathered at Shriram Chowk. They claimed they were treated тАЬlike criminalsтАЭ despite holding a peaceful demonstration to demand restoration of essential services.
