Pimpri Chinchwad, 6th July 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) shifted around 100 families from Chikhli Defence Colony to a municipal school in Chikhli on Monday while another 10 families were shifted from Keshavnagar area to a nearby civic school after the rising water level in the Indrayani river inundated low-lying areas following incessant rain.
The evacuated residents have been accommodated at the municipal schools, where the civic body has arranged food, medical care and other essential facilities.
Relentless rainfall over the past 24 hours severely disrupted normal life across Pimpri Chinchwa, Pune and neighbouring Maval. The Pavana, Mula and Indrayani rivers swelled following heavy inflows, flooding riverbank settlements and low-lying areas.
Several bridges, including four bridges located on the Indrayani river bridge at Alandi, the bridge connecting Moi village in Chikhli and the bridge linking the two Charholi villages, were submerged and closed to traffic. The Pavana river barrage at Ravet also overflowed, while water entered houses in parts of Akurdi.
The historic Morya Gosavi Temple in Chinchwad was partially submerged after floodwaters entered the temple premises. In Maval, the Pavananagar market was inundated, causing losses to traders, while a landslide struck a house in Patan village, raising fears that a family may be trapped.
Heavy waterlogging also forced the closure of the Ravet, Punawale and Tathawade underpasses on the MumbaiтАУBengaluru Highway, resulting in traffic congestion on alternate routes.
Meanwhile, rainfall in the Pavana dam catchment significantly increased water storage. Officials said the dam received 342 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, with live storage rising from 23.9% on Sunday morning to 37% on Monday morning, an increase of 13.1 percentage points. The dam currently holds 3.15 TMC of usable water, with inflows continuing to rise.
