Pimpri Chinchwad, 25th May 2026: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi has warned shopkeepers to remove encroachments and illegally placed materials outside their establishments within 15 days, failing which strict action will be initiated by the civic administration.
The warning was issued during a review meeting on anti-encroachment drives conducted by various ward offices at the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) headquarters in Pimpri on Monday.
The civic body has launched a special campaign to clear encroachments from footpaths across the city, with a focus on ensuring that pedestrians can walk without obstruction. Officials said the drive is being carried out in all regional office jurisdictions and efforts are being made to ensure that encroachments do not reappear after removal.
Addressing officials, Commissioner Suryawanshi said footpaths are meant exclusively for pedestrians and any form of encroachment would invite strict civic action. He noted that several shopkeepers deliberately extend their business space onto public areas and keep goods outside shops, causing inconvenience to citizens and obstructing traffic movement.

тАЬSuch shopkeepers must permanently remove unauthorised encroachments and materials kept outside their shops within the next 15 days. Otherwise, the municipal corporation will remove the encroachments and initiate action against the concerned establishments,тАЭ he warned.
The commissioner also directed officials to identify designated spaces for hawkers in each ward and develop hawker zones to regulate roadside vending activity. He instructed regional offices to deploy dedicated mobile squads to ensure that illegal encroachments do not return and that hawker activity does not create traffic congestion or add to urban disorder.
Senior civic officials, including additional commissioners, engineers and regional officers, were present during the review meeting.
