Pimpri Chinchwad, 22nd May 2026: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi on Thursday inspected the Ashadhi Wari Palkhi procession routes and halt locations in the city, directing civic departments to ensure that all facilities for warkaris are provided without any lapses during the annual pilgrimage.
The inspection covered routes and halt points associated with the palkhi processions of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj, which pass through the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) limits every year on their way to Pandharpur.
Officials said the civic administration has begun preparations to welcome the palkhis and manage arrangements for thousands of devotees expected during the procession.
Suryawanshi reviewed preparations at Bhakti Shakti Chowk in Nigdi, where the Sant Tukaram Maharaj palkhi is traditionally welcomed, and at Akurdi, where the procession halts overnight. He also inspected facilities at Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Urdu Secondary School, where dindis stay during the procession.

The commissioner later visited Vitthal Rukmini temple at Kharalwadi, Nashik Phata Road and halt points at Dapodi to assess arrangements being made for devotees. He also inspected the palkhi route linked to the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj procession, including the welcome point at Magazine Chowk in Moshi.
During the visit, Suryawanshi instructed officials to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply, mobile toilets, ambulance services, sanitation facilities and proper waste management at all halt locations and along the procession routes.
He also directed departments to complete pre-monsoon works, including drain cleaning, pothole repairs and water drainage management, to prevent waterlogging during the rainy season. Officials were asked to remove debris and construction material obstructing the palkhi routes and install barricades at ongoing civic work sites.

The commissioner further instructed authorities to ensure fire safety preparedness, install directional signboards and maintain CCTV surveillance at key locations, including welcome points, parking areas and halt sites.
Senior PCMC officials, police officers and representatives from Maha Metro were present during the inspection.
