Pimpri Chinchwad, 7th May 2026: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi on Wednesday directed all civic departments to strengthen disaster preparedness and undertake detailed pre-monsoon planning to tackle emergencies during the upcoming rainy season.
Chairing a pre-monsoon review meeting at the civic headquarters in Pimpri, Suryawanshi instructed officials to identify waterlogging-prone spots across the city and implement permanent solutions. He also directed departments to complete ongoing drain-cleaning works before the onset of monsoon and ensure emergency response systems remain fully operational.
The commissioner said advance planning should be done for the evacuation of residents living in flood-prone areas and that temporary shelter arrangements must be kept ready with all essential facilities. He also instructed officials to reserve beds in civic hospitals and ensure uninterrupted power supply at all healthcare facilities during emergencies.
Suryawanshi ordered an immediate inspection of dangerous buildings in the city and directed officials to issue notices and relocate residents from unsafe structures if necessary. He also called for the removal of unauthorised and dangerous hoardings and warned of strict action against those violating norms.

The civic chief further instructed the administration to keep quick response teams operational during the monsoon. These teams will include personnel from the disaster management, fire brigade, health, electricity, engineering and garden departments to ensure coordinated emergency response.
To prevent the spread of monsoon-related diseases, the health department was asked to intensify cleaning, fumigation and disinfection drives across the city. Officials were also directed to ensure safe drinking water supply and repair potholes before heavy rains begin.
The commissioner said alternative traffic routes should be planned in waterlogging-prone areas and encroachments near riverbeds posing flood risks should be removed immediately. He also instructed officials to ensure proper barricading at ongoing road and construction works and repair malfunctioning CCTV cameras for continuous monitoring through the central flood control room.
During the meeting, assistant commissioner of the disaster management department Tanaji Narale gave a detailed presentation on monsoon preparedness measures and emergency response planning.
Suryawanshi also reviewed the ongoing anti-encroachment drive being carried out by regional offices to clear footpaths. He directed officials to take strict and continuous action against encroachments, stating that pedestrian safety and accessible footpaths were the administrationтАЩs responsibility and no compromise would be tolerated.
