Pimpri, 4th May 2026: Pimpri Chinchwad police have booked 38 property owners for failing to submit tenant details to authorities while renting out their premises, officials said.
The cases have been registered under Section 223 (disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita across multiple police stations in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
The action follows a special verification drive conducted by the Anti-Terrorism Branch (ATB) of the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, along with unit-level teams at police stations. The campaign focuses on identifying unverified tenants, with particular attention to suspected illegal foreign nationals in the area.
тАЬDuring the past month, teams identified 38 landlords who had not furnished tenant information as required. Legal action has been initiated against them,тАЭ a police officer from the special branch said.
Police have urged all property owners to submit complete tenant details to their nearest police station to avoid penal action. Citizens have also been asked to inform the Anti-Terrorism Branch if they come across individuals suspected to be staying illegally in their neighbourhood.
Meanwhile, enforcement action against illegal immigration has intensified across the region. According to official data, Pune city police have deported 130 Bangladeshi nationals over the past five years, including 53 in the last three months.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Sandip Bhajibhakare said sustained verification drives and intelligence-based operations have helped teams across police stations identify and detain illegal immigrants.
Investigations have indicated that several individuals who entered the country illegally were employed at construction sites in areas such as Katraj, Ambegaon and Lonikand. In some cases, women were found to be involved in prostitution rackets in localities including Budhwar Peth and Katraj.
Faraskhana police alone detained 53 Bangladeshi nationals in the first quarter of 2026, including 14 individuals picked up from red-light areas during a single operation.
Officials said many of those apprehended were found carrying forged Aadhaar cards and other fake identity documents, which were later verified and confirmed as fraudulent.
Police added that further investigations are underway to trace networks involved in facilitating illegal entry, shelter and employment. Coordination with central agencies has also been strengthened to curb such activities.
