Pimpri Chinchwad, 2nd July 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal CorporationтАЩs (PCMC) standing committee on Wednesday approved a Rs 430.75-crore contract for the Indrayani River Rejuvenation Project under the CentreтАЩs AMRUT 2.0 scheme, paving the way for work to begin on one of the cityтАЩs largest environmental initiatives.
The project aims to reduce pollution in the Indrayani river, improve water quality, conserve the river ecosystem, protect biodiversity and develop environmentally sustainable riverfronts for public use.
The project had earlier received administrative approval of around Rs 526 crore, jointly funded by the Centre, the state government and the civic body. Following the tendering process, the standing committee approved a contract worth Rs 430.75 crore, including royalty and material testing charges.
According to civic officials, eight bids were received for the project, of which three qualified for financial evaluation. L.C. Infra Pvt Ltd emerged as the lowest bidder, quoting nearly 3% below the estimated project cost. The project is scheduled to be completed within 36 months.
As part of the plan, 60 MLD sewage treatment plants will be constructed along the Indrayani river to prevent untreated sewage from entering the waterbody.
The proposal was approved despite opposition from two of the 16 standing committee members тАФ NCP member Sandeep Waghere and Shiv Sena member Sulabha Ubale тАФ who recorded their dissent.
Officials said the project would include desilting, riverbank restoration, development of green spaces, pedestrian amenities and measures to restore the riverтАЩs natural ecology while promoting sustainable urban development. Work is expected to commence after completion of administrative formalities.
Standing committee chairman Abhishek Barne said the project would help restore the ecological health of the Indrayani and provide citizens with a cleaner and safer riverfront.
BJP MLA Mahesh Landge said the project, to be implemented under the guidance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, would reduce pollution, improve water quality and conserve biodiversity. He added that the foundation stone for the project would be laid by the chief minister shortly.
