Pimpri Chinchwad, 16th June 2026: The education department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) conducted a surprise inspection at a private English-medium school in Chikhali on Monday following complaints that students were being compelled to purchase books, uniforms and other educational material from specific private vendors.
During the inspection at Redcliff School, officials seized a number of books, uniforms and other school-related items that were allegedly being sold on the premises. The action was carried out by education department officials Sangita Bangar and Vivek Tadge.
According to education department officials, schools are expected to follow the curriculum and textbooks prescribed by the government (NCERT). However, complaints had been received that the school was recommending books published by private publishers, including material outside the prescribed curriculum, and directing parents to purchase them.
The inspection was initiated after parents alleged that they were being forced to buy expensive books and educational material, placing an additional financial burden on families. Parents claimed that the cost of books prescribed by private publishers was significantly higher than standard textbooks.
Officials said some books, uniforms and educational materials found during the inspection were seized for further examination. A detailed inquiry has been launched and action will be taken if violations of education department norms are established.
The education department stated that the use of textbooks other than those prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and the approved curriculum requires scrutiny. Authorities will examine whether any rules regarding the sale and recommendation of educational material were violated.
“Schools affiliated to CBSE are expected to use textbooks in accordance with NCERT guidelines. Clear directions have already been issued by the Directorate of Primary Education. If any violation of these instructions is found, action will be taken against the institution as per rules,” said Sangita Bangar, Administrative Officer, Education Department, PCMC.
