Pimpri Chinchwad, 8th May 2026: Lok Sabha MP from Maval Shrirang Barne has directed officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to immediately demolish and reconstruct the allegedly poor-quality service road work being constructed along the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway bypass stretch between Mamurdi and Wakad in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
The instructions were issued during an inspection of the ongoing service road expansion work on Thursday. The project involves widening service roads on both sides of the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway (Dehu Road-Katraj bypass) from Mamurdi to the Mula river bridge near Wakad. The NHAI has planned a 12-metre-wide expansion of the service roads along the corridor.
During the inspection, Barne reviewed the work at Kiwale, where according to him several complaints regarding substandard construction had been received. He was accompanied by Shiv Sena city chief and corporator Nilesh Taras, corporator Aishwarya Rajendra Taras, Yuva Sena Maval Lok Sabha office-bearer Rajendra Taras, along with officials from the highway department, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and other concerned agencies.
Speaking after the inspection, Barne said the proposed project aims to develop 12-metre-wide service roads on both sides between Kiwale and Wakad. However, during the site visit, poor-quality work was observed at several locations. He said strict instructions had been issued to the contractor and officials to ensure quality standards are maintained.

тАЬThere will be no compromise on works related to public safety and daily traffic movement. The existing poor-quality work must be completely removed and reconstructed with proper standards within the next 15 days,тАЭ Barne said.
He also instructed authorities to prioritise durability, quality and public convenience in the ongoing highway works.
Barne further pointed out that the contractor would be responsible for maintenance and repairs of the service road for the next five years and therefore the work must be completed with proper quality and within the stipulated timeline.
He also raised concerns over severe traffic congestion caused by the ongoing work, particularly near the Samir Lawns area. With the monsoon approaching and work still incomplete, Barne directed officials to speed up the construction process to minimise inconvenience to commuters.
